Holy Feral Break in CatMom!

THIS is not one of mine either!  I came home, closed the slider to find the screen had been pushed open.  I proceed to start to feed four cats...
Then I turn around to see one come out from my room. (He was all warm and sleepy and he wolfed the food down I put before him.

I was able to pet him the whole time he was eating and he didn't misbehave once.  Then I picked him up, food dish and all and placed him outside.

Am now feeling like a horrible Catmom.  Thank cod its not horridly cold here at night.  I have made makeshift shelters out of an old cat tree in the back yard. Also there is a double porch swing.  Its the raccoons I worry about.  *sigh*.  He's already been injured somehow and walks with a limp. In these photos I see some irritation in his ears.  Poor little guy.

I know we can't save them all but he would be an awesome pet if he were fixed.  I have to give this more thought. Right now I only have a bike for transport and no extra cash for neutering even if I could secure a lift.   It's ok if all we can do is feed and provide a reasonably safe place and for now that's what I can do.
i love how he looks like a saber tooth in this photo

  1. He's lucky to be in a warmer climate than here. -15 and windy. He is a gorgeous cat and very clean looking so he must belong to someone. Dang...what is wrong with people? Why isn't he fixed?
He's lucky he found you as I am sure you will do what is right for him. Good luck Stacy. Deb

  3. Call or email Stray Cat Alliance (http://straycatalliance.org/) and explain the situation - injured stray, you don't have a car, money, etc. They're Los Angeles-based, but may know someone in your area that can lend you a hand/ cage/ transportation. There are places that will fix stray cats for nothing if they can ear tip them as feral, or for very little if you want to claim or foster him.

  5. it must be all the happy energy! Do you have a place there that does low-cost spay neuter for strays? In chicago, we have Tree House and it's very inexpensive, something like $25 (don't quote me on that). Sparkle has the right idea! Good luck. :) - Crepes.

  6. Strays know where the kind cat people live, don't they? Sounds like you are getting a lot of good ideas in the comments, especially from Sparkle's. Even in our not-very-enlightened area, the local TNR group has volunteers to transport cats to/from spay appointments for colony caretakers who can't drive, and I would probably contact them in your situation to ask if they could lend a hand.

  8. He looks a handsome boy. I am amazed the other cats haven't had anything to say about your visitors. Flynn would go ballistic if he as much as got a whiff of a strange cat on his property.
